Ooni Koda 12 Review – Pros Vs. Cons – What’s The Verdict On This Portable Pizza Oven?
In this Ooni Koda 12 review, I will be giving you some insight into the smaller sized Koda 12, which is the lower capacity version of the similar Ooni Koda 16.
Now please make sure you read this entire article as I’m going to go into the pros and cons of this model, and at the end of the post if you still want to get the Ooni Koda 12, I’ll show you where to get it and for the absolute best possible price.
Here are the pros of Ooni Koda 12
Virtually no setup
The Koda 12 is basically plug-and-play.
You have to unbox the unit, fold out the legs, slide the cooking stone in, and then attach the propane fuel source, and you’re good to go.
Extremely portable
As the Koda 12 is quite a bit smaller than its larger brother, the Koda 16, it’s more easily portable.
The Koda 12 can be carried very easily by two people and without too much trouble at all can be taken solo if you’re big and strong.
It’s pretty lightweight with dimensions of just 16 x 12 x 25 inches.
Speedy cooking time
Due to the propane gas source, and the overall design, the Koda 12 cooks fast relative to how small and portable this little pizza oven is in design.
Ooni Koda 12 Pizza Oven
So what about the cons of Ooni Koda 12
The main con with the Koda 12 is that it doesn’t offer multiple options in terms of fuel source. You are limited to just propane.
The Ooni Koda 16 offers a natural gas conversion kit, but this is not possible for the Koda 12.
The other side of this con is that you can’t use wood pellets like you can with the Fyra, which means you don’t get that same wood-smoked flavor.
This is part of the design and advantage of the Koda 12, as it’s small and meant to be highly portable, easy to set up, and quick to get cooking all your favorite pizzas, and the Koda 12 achieves this beautifully.
Overall the Ooni Koda 12 is a super portable, very fast cooking portable pizza oven. It’s one of your best options if you’re looking for something super mobile and doesn’t take too much stuffing around to get working.
Also, it’s not too tough on the wallet compared to its more expensive big brother, the Koda 16.
Ooni Koda 12 Pizza Oven Review After 1 year!
Now, I will be going over my thoughts on the Ooni Koda 12 review after using it for a year: let’s do it.
Appearance
Looking at the oven, the appearance, it’s still looking perfect. The cover and outer shell look very much like new. I hardly ever clean it.
I wipe the dust off the top of the oven with a cloth and brush out the inside. I have scratched to the sides at the front with my peels, and they’re minor scratches. It’s not affected the oven at all elsewhere.
It’s pretty much like new, and I have used this oven a lot in the two years that I’ve had it.
Baking stone
The stone is not changed, it’s the same stone that I had, and it’s easy to use. I turn it over after every cook to clean it.
If you want to see how I clean my pizza stone, if there’s nasty debris on it, check this video out, and I’ll, also put that in the description box below.
Ignition Dial
The ignition dial still works well; it ignites easily; just hold it down For a few seconds.
The flame is there, so there’s been absolutely no change to the flame and the quality of the flame also the ignition dial is still working well.
Both low and high flames are still working perfectly. I’ve never touched the back flame burner area and never needed to clean that area. I leave it well alone.
Cooking performance
The pizza cooks haven’t changed. The only thing that’s changed is me, and the way I cook my pizza and the oven is still performing precisely as it did when I had it new.
Overall
Overall, this oven is still working as well as it did when I first bought it. No complaints. It’s just a very well-designed and constructed pizza oven.
As I said before, the only thing that’s changed is me and my cooking style.
I am now cooking pizzas that are a bit bigger, and so my go-to oven is the larger Ooni Koda 16 at the moment because I can make giant pizza in it and smaller ones but also have more room to maneuver inside.
I’ve got a review of my Ooni Koda 16, where I go through my reasons why that’s now become my new go-to pizza oven.

Big pepperoni pizza cooked in the Ooni Koda 12
I’m just trying to be careful. We don’t rip anything; let’s go ahead and get this measured out.
Let’s see how big; what’s going on everyone welcome back to my channel; it’s the pizza guy john uh.
Today, I’m going to be making a pizza in the Ooni Koda and not just any pizza, I’m going to try to attempt to max this oven out and try to make the big pizza in here. So let’s go and measure this real, quick, the inside we’re.
Let’s say: 13 inches 13 x 13 and a half, so we’re going to try to go for a big bad boy of 13 inches in the Ooni Koda 12. So let’s go ahead and get this turned on all right.
So now that the oven is preheating let’s take a look at the peel that will be used, which is just my gi, metal, perforated, poo, and so right now, it does measure.
Let’s see about 12 inches, and then from here, 12 inches would be right here, and 13 comes about to that blue uh circle there uh!
So what we’re going to try to do is we can try to go a little bit off the edges here and probably just a little up on here.
If we go ahead and for our 13-inch pizza in tonight’s toppings that we’re Going to be using, are just going to be Some pepperonis.
These are the cups and crisps, some mozzarella, and some tomato sauce that I have some basil in there. Tomato sauce is the Bianco, the Napoli tomatoes, delicious tomatoes.
If you could get your hands on some highly recommend it, the dough that we will be using tonight is a polish. It’s a 50 percent polish at 70 hydration.
It’s been sitting at room temperature for about two hours, so they’re ready to go all right, so the oven has been preheating for about 30 minutes.
We’re looking at about 250 in the middle um. Outsides are looking back 800. So we’re ready to start making pizza all right, so I’m gonna go and grab this one.
I’m going to go straight underneath, try to keep it as round as possible, Hear all that air bubbles put and let’s go walls about 260 260 grams.
You know some lemons that don’t stick, and we’re just building the crust here. Getting these bubbles all right, I’m just trying to be careful.
We don’t rip anything that looks good right there; go on with the sauce.
Some mozzarella, I’m just gonna rip this up here, and our pepperoni, and again you want to be quick now that the dough is on and the sauce is on, you don’t want it to stick a couple more pepperonis, all right straight to the peel.
Now make sure we have enough all right; we’re Going all the way up here, a little bit off the edges And try to get it and onto and straight down and pull all the way to the end.
Let’s see what we got all right, so looking pretty good, we have it off the edge a little bit almost on the sides. I do see that it is pretty close to the sides, which is nice, so we’ll go ahead now get a spin on it, and we’ve got some burnage here.
Looking like a heart, As you can see, we got some burn right there, but again we’re gon na go ahead and get that cooked all the way.
Through check that volume you can see, it is cooking, pretty nice all the way back to the end there.
Let’s go ahead: cooking, pretty quick, all right and there you go. The bottom is cooked nicely, and so let’s get this inside and there you go.
Let’s go ahead and get This measured out. Let’s see how big so we did definitely get it to about 12 inches and here about 10 and a half, but as you can see, you can do a full 12 inch pizza. If you want to check up at the bottom bottom, is nice and cooked all right? Well, there you go.
I’ve made a pizza in the unicoda, not maxed out to the full potential, but, as you can see.
You can make a 12 inch pizza, and here you go simple: pepperoni pizza, the bottom, looking nice and crispy, and here it goes for the bite. You could hear that crunch a really really good pizza.
Again, these little cups and crips are an awesome piece of pepperoni.
